The Toronto Maple Leafs are huge favorites on opening night, as they are laying a price of -300 to the Ottawa Senators. The Leafs are expected to be one of the top teams in the NHL this season and Cam has a very strong play on the total in this season opening game. Make sure to listen to the podcast to get Cam’s pick.
The marquee match-up in the NHL on opening night has the Capitals visiting the Blues on NBCSN. Washington finished last season with a record of 48-26-7-1 but was not nearly as impressive as its championship team of the prior season. Washington ranked fifth in the NHL for goal scoring. Offsetting that was a defense that ranked 17th in the league for goals against.
Last year the Blues had a remarkable story in which they had the worst record in the entire NHL on New Year’s Day only to rally to make the playoffs and win the Stanley Cup as an underdog. Adding to the story was that their goaltending hero, Jordan Binnington who caught fire and became the goalie that the Blues have spent decades looking for. St. Louis, like Washington, won the first Stanley Cup in the history of their franchise. Brian and Cam both like the Capitals in this contest at plus money.
The Canucks and Oilers are the third game on the schedule and Brian and Cam are a little bit leery of betting this one. Of all the games, this is the one that they are staying away from.
The late game on opening night on NBCSN has the Sharks visiting the Golden Knights. This is a huge revenge game for Vegas, as they were eliminated by the Sharks in last year’s playoffs. These teams have already developed a huge rivalry, so this one should be fun to watch. Brian is not thrilled about laying the price, so he prefers to play the puck line in this opener, as he expects Vegas to roll. The Sharks will be without Evander Kane and Erik Karlsson in this contest. Cam is also on Vegas in the opener and he is also looking to take Vegas in the back end of this home and home in San Jose on Friday. Cam also has a parlay that he is playing for opening night.
