RECAP: On this episode (03/04/2020) of The Hockey Betting Podcast we were treated to a lesson on the combination of Hockey Sense and Gambling Courage. Cam’s top Wednesday pick on the Arizona Coyotes was a 4-2 win at the Vancouver Canucks, which wasn’t for the faint of heart. On the Thursday card he came right back with a gusty pick on the slumping Florida Panthers, who were big home dogs to the steamrolling Boston Bruins. Boston won in overtime 2-1 but Cam was certainly correct in sensing an all-out Florida effort. However, his expensive reach on the erratic Toronto Maple Leafs at Los Angeles Kings was frustrating. The resurgent Kings won a 1-0 shootout. Cam expected the Leafs to come back strong against the last place team in the West after a bad loss at San Jose. Such is the game of hockey.

Philadelphia Flyers at Washington Capitals -155, 6.5 (NBCSN)
Philly could be a live dog in NHL betting tonight as one of the hottest teams in the league with eight wins in their last 10 games. But the Caps are off the mat with three wins in their last four tilts. Cam leans with the red-hot Flyers as the quality dog.
Columbus Blue Jackets at Calgary Flames -170, 5.5
The Flames are an expensive favourite against the Eastern Conference’s current eight-seed. But lack of offence has caused CBJ to drop eight of their last 10 games. Cam sees this as a low over/under on the board and Brian agrees. Cam also likes the Flames but not the price. He will stick with over the total.
Anaheim Ducks at Colorado Avalanche -278, 5.5 (NBCSN)
The massive Colorado price may drive hockey bettors to the puck lines. The Avs are riding a seven-game winning streak despite a lengthy injury list. Cam says you can’t take either side on this one as the expensive price scares him off the Avs.
Arizona Coyotes at Vancouver Canucks -120, 5.5
All of a sudden, the slumping Canucks have dropped five of their last seven and have fallen to seventh in the West. Pittsburgh Penguins -157 at Buffalo Sabres
This game features a favourite angle of Brian and listeners of The Hockey Betting Podcast, which is to bet against a team playing their first home game after four or more contests on the road. But an expensive Pens team that has lost six of its last seven will test the nerve of this theory. Brian says it’s time for a funeral in Buffalo while Cam advises Sabres fans to throw back the brews and enjoy a lot of offence. The guys like over the total here.
Montreal Canadiens at Tampa Bay Lightning -210 (TSN2, RDS)
Tampa Bay backers may prefer a puck line play in this match-up. Especially with Steven Stamkos on the shelf. Bleu, Blanc et Rouge is a dangerous 17-12-3 on enemy ice. Montreal’s Monday win at the Islanders impressed the guys. Cam leans TBL but will not lay the high price. The guys pass.
Boston Bruins -139 at Florida Panthers
There will likely be more Bruins fans in the stands than for the home team here. Boston has extended its Eastern Conference lead with eight wins in their last 10 games. Washington Capitals -143 at New York Rangers
As Cam has mentioned on previous episodes of The Hockey Betting Podcast the Rangers are a poor wagering value at Madison Square Garden. NYR is also in the cooler with three straight losses. Cam says the Rangers are out of gas and that there is no way you can take them now. He will take the Caps.
Carolina Hurricanes at Philadelphia Flyers -118 (NBCSN)
Carolina is only three points out of the final spot in the East for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. But their top two goalies remain on the shelf. The Canes have dropped three in a row since backup Zamboni driver David Ayres saved their bacon at Toronto. New York Islanders -148 at Ottawa Senators
Inability to light the lamp has become a crisis for the Islanders. NYI has dropped eight of their last ten. Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators -127
Speaking of live dogs, how about a Dallas team that is third in the West with a defence that remains at elite level status? Nashville is an unreliable 16-14-4 in Music City. Brian thinks the Preds will come back hard after an embarrassing 8-3 loss to Edmonton in their last home game. Cam will avoid this tilt.
Edmonton Oilers -125 at Chicago Blackhawks
The Oil has won three in a row and has been a good away value with the NHL odds. In fact, Edmonton has a road record of 20-13-3. Chicago is only 14-13-4 at home. The guys like over the total here. Cam also has a lean with the Oilers.
Toronto Maple Leafs -167 at Los Angeles Kings
Just when you think the Leafs are on track they go and lay a 5-2 stink bomb at the Shark Tank. This could be another tricky match-up, especially against a resurgent Kings team that has won three in a row. LA’s recent call-ups have been a much-needed blood transfusion. Minnesota Wild -115 at San Jose Sharks
Minnesota has gone Wild with six wins in their last eight games to close within one point of the final spot in the West for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Cam asks, “What do you do here?” He likes the recent effort of the Sharks call-ups. And Cam says it’s a bad spot for the Wild here. The guys lean over the total.
