RECAP:  On this episode (03/02/2020) of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Cam made an understandable call to ride the Toronto Maple Leafs against a terrible San Jose Sharks team. But once again we were reminded about the fickle and random nature of hockey in a 5-2 Sharks win. But the guys also showed their impeccable sixth-sense for hockey betting by calling on the Avs and under the total in their 2-1 win at Detroit. And their 8-3 win with Edmonton and over the total at Nashville was another gem. In fact, Cam has been way out in front of the crowd, labeling the Nashville Predators “fraudulent.” Cam had Minnesota for their Tuesday 3-1 win over the Preds.

The latest episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast has Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart taking a look at games for Monday, March 2 and Tuesday, March 3, 2020. The second half of the show begins at the 9:14 mark.

What makes NHL betting so great is its unpredictability, and the guys were occasionally on the wrong end of that this weekend as Cam laments some bad beats on today’s episode.  But now a new week begins with five Eastern Conference teams within five points of each other for the final two spots in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Western Conference is just as hot with the bottom six teams within four points of each other for the final three post-season positions. On today’s episode, the guys offer a great must-hear tutorial concerning an interesting betting angle to consider as well as their top NHL picks for Monday and Tuesday.

Monday, March 2nd 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Picks

Colorado Avalanche -320, 6 at Detroit Red Wings (NHL Network)

Puck lines may be the preferred method of play here on the heavily-favoured Avalanche, who continue to steamroll into the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs despite numerous injuries. Colorado has overcome its short-handed lineup with six consecutive wins. The guys lean under the total based on the Avs recent form.

Edmonton Oilers at Nashville Predators -135, 6

The Predators have been one of the most difficult teams to figure out with the NHL lines this season. Yet the Preds begin the week in the West’s final slot for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs with three games in hand over Winnipeg and Arizona. Nashville has won six of their last nine contests. The Oil has dropped four of their last six, even with Connor McDavid back in the lineup. Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for complete analysis and the double-play pick from the guys.

Tuesday, March 3rd 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Picks

Montreal Canadiens at New York Islanders -130 (TSN2, RDS)

New York is stuck on an Island with no offence and seven losses in their last nine games. Montreal may offer potential value with the NHL lines as a team that has played their best hockey on the road. Brian asks what is going on with the Islanders? Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for a big NHL pick from Cam on this one.

St. Louis Blues -141 at New York Rangers

It’s been sweet music for The Note, who have won seven in a row to maintain their lead of the Western Conference. Despite marked improvement, the Rangers have struggled to bring value at Madison Square Garden. They have also begun to cool off with two straight losses. Cam likes St. Louis and says it’s time to jump off the NYR train.

Ottawa Senators at Pittsburgh Penguins -335 (RDS2)

Slumping Pittsburgh limps in as the expensive favourite despite a six-game losing streak. However, Ottawa is just 6-18-6 on the road. Puck lines will get play from Pittsburgh backers due to the massive lay with the NHL lines. This match-up features a money-making angle from Brian, which is to bet against a team playing their first game at home following a road trip of four or more games. The guys give great analysis on this one. Cam is down on the slumping overlay Pens and will take the big price on the Sens.

Boston Bruins at Tampa Bay Lightning -150 (NBCSN)

There is the potential irony that the Steven Stamkos injury may actually make the Lightning a better wagering value with the NHL odds. Steamrolling Boston is one of hockey’s most public teams and will certainly command full retail markup most nights. Yet the powerful B’s are an enticing dog here. Brian is thinking over the total while Cam likes the underdog Bruins.

Nashville Predators at Minnesota Wild -122

This is a playoff-light game with Minnesota one point behind the Predators for eighth in the West. The Wild have won five of their last seven games. Both teams struggle on the back-end and between the pipes. On the Wednesday episode (02/26/2020) of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Cam flatly stated Nashville is “fraudulent.” Brian has noticed the Wild trending over the total and will bet that way. Cam leans Minnesota and over.

Buffalo Sabres at Winnipeg Jets -148

Neither team is in good form, and Brian’s beloved vagabond Sabres wrap up a four-game western swing here along with the sixth road match-up in their last seven tilts. Winnipeg has dropped four of their last five yet remains tied for the last spot in the West for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for a strong NHL pick from Cam on this one.

Anaheim Ducks at Chicago Blackhawks -157

Is there any opportunity to be had with these two bottom-feeders? Cam likes the over as Brian points out the trend of high-scoring Blackhawks games recently.

Edmonton Oilers at Dallas Stars -177

Lack of offence continues to hold the Stars down. Meanwhile the Oil boasts the NHL’s top power play unit and is 18-13-3 on enemy ice. Brian may take a flier on the under here. Cam agrees and likes the big dog price on Edmonton. He says the Stars price is too rich.

New Jersey Devils at Vegas Golden Knights -240

Vegas has won eight of their last nine while New Jersey concludes a five-game road trip in Sin City. Regular listeners to The Hockey Betting Podcast know that Cam has a lot of respect for the Devils and the value they bring with the NHL lines. Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for interesting analysis from the guys on this game and the pick.

Toronto Maple Leafs -143 at San Jose Sharks

One week ago, Toronto Maple Leafs fans were ready to jump off the bridge. Now they are picking their spot on that same bridge to view the Stanley Cup parade. Such is life for the NHL’s largest and most championship starved fan base. Now the question beckons as to whether or not the Leafs can be trusted after three wins in a row. This game opens a three-game California road trip for TO. Get Cam’s major double-play NHL pick for this one now on The Hockey Betting Podcast.
