February 19th, 2020 | The Hockey Betting Podcast
The latest episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast has Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart taking a look at games for Wednesday, February 19 and Thursday, February 20, 2020. The second half of the show begins at the 19:28 mark.
The Monday NHL trade deadline looms over the league, which only adds to the handicapping factors as the playoff push is in full swing. Cam has had more than enough of the “gutless” Toronto Maple Leafs, who burned him Tuesday night in a stink bomb debacle at Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, Brian is again howling at the moon over the woes of the Buffalo Sabres. But don’t despair, the guys have a strong new list of NHL picks on today’s episode!

Wednesday, February 19th 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Picks
New York Rangers at Chicago Blackhawks -130, 6.5 (NBCSN)
Sparked by strong goal scoring, the Rangers have won seven of their last 10. The back end is all that is keeping them out of post-season contention. Chicago has been exposed as a pretender with seven losses in their last nine games. This price looks strangely public. Cam leans Rangers as he assesses Chicago as not a very good team. Brian doesn’t like the game.
Boston Bruins -180, 6 at Edmonton Oilers (SN)
Connor McDavid remains out for Edmonton until early March, but the Oil has won four of their last five anyway. The Boston juggernaut rolls into town with nine wins in their last 10 games. The guys agree on the pick for this one. Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast to get the free pick.
Arizona Coyotes at Dallas Stars -160, 5
Arizona is off the mat with two straight wins to again hold the West’s eighth spot for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Dallas has won four of their last five and is neck and neck with St. Louis for top seed in the West. “Under takers” may be expecting a low scoring game between these two clubs that struggle to light the lamp. Cam likes the Coyotes “Desert Dog” price here.
Florida Panthers -135, 6 at Anaheim Ducks
Cam may hate the Panthers as he stated on last Friday’s episode (02/14/2020), but he correctly picked them on Monday’s episode (02/17/2020) for their 5-3 win at San Jose. The Cats remain only two points out of the last playoff spot in the East, but defence remains a major Florida liability. Anaheim has dropped four of their last six and ranks 29th for goals scored. Brian says betting action is soaring on the over. Cam is going to ride “over-rated” Florida while admitting it could be dangerous. He also expects a high scoring game.
New York Islanders at Colorado Avalanche -170, 5.5
Brian has sung the praises of both of these teams on the last several episodes and has a ticket on the Avs to win the 2020 Stanley Cup Final. But Colorado has lost three in a row, as have the Isles, who are wrapping up a four-game road trip here. Cam has a strong and immediate reaction pick for this one. Listen to today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast to get it. Also, Brian has an interesting take on the total.
Minnesota Wild at Vancouver Canucks -130, 6
Cam is very critical of the Wild firing coach Bruce Boudreau both today and on Monday’s episode (02/17/2020). The Wild’s real problem is defence and goaltending. The puck line price could entice action on the Canucks. Cam comes out strong here. Listen to today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast now for his pick and the guys’ in-depth analysis for this match-up.
Thursday, February 20th 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Picks
Pittsburgh Penguins at Toronto Maple Leafs -130 (TSN4)
This is the second game of a home and home series as these teams met Tuesday in Pittsburgh with the Penguins posting a dominant 5-2 win. The Pens are in good form with seven wins in their last 10 games. The Toronto Maple Leafs remain a great fantasy hockey team, but they are a fraud when it comes to being a serious threat for the Cup. Dumbfounded new coach Sheldon Keefe is learning the hard way that all of the analytics in the world from GM Kyle “Dubious” Dubas can’t cover for a weak blue line and suspect goaltending. And to paraphrase the late U.S. President Richard Nixon, the Leafs don’t have Mike Babcock to kick around anymore! Get hard-hitting, in-depth analysis that is a must-listen, as well as the free NHL pick for this re-match on today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast.
San Jose Sharks at New Jersey Devils -112
On Monday’s episode (02/17/2020) Cam re-affirmed his belief in the Devils, who have won four of their last six contests. However, neither of these teams will qualify for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Brian sees both teams in “sell mode” for the trade deadline. Cam can’t shake the Devils and will take them yet again here.
Montreal Canadiens at Washington Capitals -220 (NBCSN, TSN2, RDS)
Washington burned Brian and Cam badly on Monday’s episode (02/17/2020) as they called for a big Caps win at Vegas. But VGK prevailed 3-2 as Washington lost for the fourth time in five outings. The high price on the Caps may drive their supporters to the puck lines. The guys see Ovechkin’s quest for 700 goals (He is at 698) as a distraction and part of Washington’s current losing equation. Montreal is coming off an embarrassing loss at Detroit. Cam thinks Washington will prevail but hates the high price.
Philadelphia Flyers at Columbus Blue Jackets -125 (SN)
Free-falling Columbus is half a team with great defence and goaltending but no offence. The inability to light the lamp has caused a six-game CBJ losing streak. C-Bus holds a precarious two-point lead in the East’s eighth spot for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The surging Flyers beat Columbus 5-1 on Tuesday. Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast for a big NHL pick here.
Winnipeg Jets -143 at Ottawa Senators (TSN5, RDS2)
Ottawa is a surprisingly competitive 14-11-6 on home ice, but the Jets have won four of their last six and are just one point from a spot in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Sens scored a 7-4 home win over Buffalo on Tuesday. Can they really win two in a row? Brian is complimentary of the Sens consistent work ethic. Cam says the Jets will take care of business, although it’s dangerous to bet against Ottawa.
Arizona Coyotes at St. Louis Blues -177
The Note has been in free-fall with eight losses in their last 10 games to blow what was a solid lead for first in the West. With the loss of Jay Bouwmeester, Cam sees the Blues as a desperate team and will pass. And Brian admits he just doesn’t know what we will get with Arizona from game to game.
Tampa Bay Lightning at Vegas Golden Knights -110 (SN)
Vegas has picked up the pace for new coach Peter DeBoer by posting six wins in their last nine games. The Lightning have struck for an 11-game winning streak and are now battling Boston for first in the East. Brian says DeBoer has opened it up for VGK as he is letting the blue line jump into the attack more. Cam has a solid side and total here. Listen to today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast to get Cam’s pick in this match-up.
Florida Panthers -136 at Los Angeles Kings
Will Cam continue to show his hate for the Panthers by taking them for a third straight game? Meanwhile it’s fire sale time in LA. Cam sees the Panthers as an under-achieving team that may go on a heater. The guys are thinking over the total for this one, especially if the Kings trade Alec Martinez, which looks likely.
