The latest episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast has Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart taking a look at games for one of the biggest weekends of the NHL season.  The second half of the show begins at the 13:40 mark.

Starting on Friday is a slate of action that will keep gamblers busy through the entire weekend. Playoff jockeying has been at a level rarely seen. It’s Presidents Day Weekend in the United States and Sunday is Hockey Day in America. Adding to that is Saturday Night’s Stadium Series game at the US Air Force Academy. All of which means even more games on the weekend schedule than normal. Cam and Brian are on top of it all with strong analysis and picks.

Friday, February 14th, 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Free Picks

San Jose Sharks at Winnipeg Jets -129, 6 (TSN3)

Jets coach Paul Maurice just got an extension, but Winnipeg’s playoff prospects hang in the balance. The Jets have lost six of their last 10 and are a lethargic 14-13-3 on home ice. Cam likes to take teams coming off a bad loss. Based on that he’s on the Jets.

Montreal Canadiens at Pittsburgh Penguins -200, 6 (TSN2, RDS)

Following their overtime win at Toronto the Habs are falling back again with two straight losses. Pittsburgh is a strong 19-5-4 with the NHL odds at PPG Paints Arena. Brian calls Montreal “snake bit.” Top defenceman Shea Weber is now out for the Habs. Cam likes the Pens against a “wounded animal.”

New York Rangers at Columbus Blue Jackets -132, 5.5

The Broadway Blueshirts rank seventh for goal scoring but will be up against the NHL’s second ranked team for goals allowed. Cam likes the under in this one and expects a defence-oriented game.

New Jersey Devils at Carolina Hurricanes -225, 6

Carolina continues a neck-and-neck battle with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the last NHL Eastern Conference slot in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Canes are 18-9-1 at home. Brian loves to go against teams in their first home game that follows a long road trip. Cam says the Canes price is way too high and likes the over. He calls NJD “sneaky” and says Carolina backers better be careful. On Monday’s episode (02/10/2020) Cam admitted his bias on improved New Jersey. Brian also likes over the total.

Saturday, February 15th, 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Free Picks

Detroit Red Wings at Boston Bruins -335 (NHL Network, SN)

Boston seeks revenge for an embarrassing 3-1 loss at Detroit last Sunday on NBC. Puck lines may be the preferred method for the mega-favourite Bruins. Boston is 20-2-9 at TD Garden and leads the Eastern Conference. Detroit is 5-23-2 on the road and has the NHL’s worst goal differential. The guys pass based on price. The puck line is the only way to play this one, says Cam.

Nashville Predators at St. Louis Blues -132

Slumping St. Louis has lost seven of their last nine games but is 18-5-5 at home. The Preds rank 26th in the NHL for goals allowed and are five points out of a spot for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Cam is adamant with a strong pick in this one. Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast to get it.

Philadelphia Flyers at Tampa Bay Lightning -177 (NHL Network)

The Lighting have struck for nine wins in their last 10 games and are now just three points out of first in the East. The Flyers are also in good form with seven wins in their last ten games. Cam says the TBL price is too high for him. He will go Philly or nothing here.

Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers -136

Connor McDavid remains out for Edmonton. On Monday’s episode (02/10/2020) the guys hammered Florida for terrible defence, signing goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, and perpetually failing to live up to pre-season hype. The Panthers 6-2 home loss Thursday to the Flyers is an exclamation point to what Brian and Cam have been saying. Yet, Cam likes Florida here even while admitting that he has bashed the Panthers and hates them. He even calls for their contraction.

San Jose Sharks at Minnesota Wild -175

Minnesota has won seven of their last 10 but remain wildly inconsistent. On recent episodes the guys have remarked on just how bad San Jose is. But laying money with Minnesota is often risky. The Wild fired coach Bruce Boudreau on Friday. Cam won’t lay the Wild price. The guys lean over the total here.

Dallas Stars at Montreal Canadiens -114 (CITY)

This is the second of a three-game Canadian road trip for a Dallas team struggling to light the lamp. But the Habs home record is a weak 13-15-4. On Friday, Dallas will be resting in Montreal while the Habs play at Pittsburgh. The guys love the price on the Stars.

Toronto Maple Leafs -195 at Ottawa Senators (CBC)

Cam continues to crack on the “lucky” Leafs, and the guys always refuse to lay the lumber with heavy favourites. Brian and Cam agree that the Toronto Maple Leafs are “over-rated.” This price is “insane” according to Cam, and he likes Ottawa with the over. Brian agrees.

Los Angeles Kings at Colorado Avalanche -240 (NBC-Stadium Series at Air Force Academy Falcon Stadium)

The puck line may be the way to go here with a very expensive but talented Avalanche team in a mismatch. Cam says the Kings have “tapped out” and likes the Avs to rebound after a loss to Washington. He calls for a parlay or taking the puck lines on Colorado.

Chicago Blackhawks at Calgary Flames -152 (CBC)

Somehow the Flames remain in position for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs despite weak goal scoring and a mediocre 13-10-4 home record. The once Mighty Blackhawks have lost six of their last seven. The guys agree that Chicago is a mess. Cam will pass due to price.

Washington Capitals -130 at Arizona Coyotes

Slumping Arizona has lost eight of their last 10 and is fighting for their playoff lives. The Coyotes are a disturbing 13-11-4 at home. Washington makes bank on the road with an impressive record of 20-6-1. On Wednesday’s episode (02/12/2020) Brian and Cam delivered with a strong pick on the Caps 3-2 win at Colorado. Arizona is alarming Cam after their loss to Ottawa. The guys just can’t trust the slumping Coyotes.

New York Islanders at Vegas Golden Knights -162

On Friday’s (02/07/2020) and Monday’s (02/10/2020) episodes of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Brian said the Isles are a potential money maker for the stretch run. New York ranks sixth in the NHL for goals against and has won five of their last seven games. Erratic Vegas is 14-10-4 at T-Mobile Arena and has lost five of their last eight.

Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast for a strong pick on this one from Sin City.

Sunday, February 16th 2020, NHL Key Games

Boston Bruins at New York Rangers (NBC)

The guys like over the total in this NBC matinee marquee matchup of Original Six teams.

Edmonton Oilers at Carolina Hurricanes

Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast for analysis and picks for this game.

Anaheim Ducks at Vancouver Canucks

Cam wants no part of “stepping in front of Vancouver” these days as the Canucks are hot.

Columbus Blue Jackets at New Jersey Devils

The guys expect a business-like win by CBJ in this one.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Buffalo Sabres (SN)

Over the total is Brian’s pick, and Cam agrees. Cam also likes the Sabres at home to beat their neighbor from across the border. He says Buffalo is always up for Toronto at home.
