Monday, January 27th, 2020 NHL Schedule and Betting Odds

Washington Capitals -115, 6.0 at Montreal Canadiens – ESPN+

The Caps begin the second half of the season one point ahead of the Boston Bruins for first place overall in the Eastern Conference. Montreal is 10 points out of the eighth in final playoff spot in the East. A backend that ranks 21st in the NHL for goals against is a big reason why. Washington’s price is lower than expected due to Alex Ovechkin sitting this one out. Cam likes the under and Brian agrees.

New Jersey Devils at Ottawa Senators -120, 6.5

After firing their general manager and coach the Devils wallow in 15th place in the 16 team Eastern Conference. The lowly and rebuilding Senators are a point ahead of New Jersey, who was tabbed to make the playoffs. Cam likes New Jersey as a value dog.

Toronto Maple Leafs at Nashville Predators -110, 6.5

The firing of Mike Babcock as Maple Leafs head coach has not hidden the fact that the blue line and goaltending remain a concern. Toronto is four points out of the final playoff spot and ranks 23rd in the NHL for goals against. Cam sees this as a tough game for either side. Brian leans over the total due to Toronto’s leaky back end combined with their goal scoring prowess.

Tampa Bay Lightning -125, 5.5 at Dallas Stars – NBCSN

Stars head coach Rick Bowness has Dallas third in the Western Conference after taking over the team in tough circumstances earlier in the year. Bowness was Tampa Bay’s long-time top assistant to head coach Jon Cooper. Tampa Bay has picked up the pace with eight wins in their last 10 games and ranks 3rd in the NHL for goal scoring. Cam leans Dallas as a quality home dog and over the total.

St. Louis Blues -125, 5.5 at Vancouver Canucks

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Blues begin the second half of the season in the number one slot in the Western Conference. Upstart Vancouver is 4th in the Western Conference but is only four points ahead of the ninth place Winnipeg Jets. Both guys like Vancouver due to the long flight for the Blues and a possible St. Louis All Star Game host hangover. Both see the Canucks as a good home dog play. The guys like over the total as well.

Anaheim Ducks at San Jose Sharks -147, 5.5

Two of the worst teams in the Western Conference meet in this one. Only the cellar dweller Los Angeles Kings trail the Ducks and Sharks in the West.

Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 NHL Schedule and Betting Odds

Ottawa Senators at Buffalo Sabres -200 – NHL Network

The Sens have a tough assignment here having hosted New Jersey the night before. The Sabres have cooled off after a hot start just as they did one year ago. The Sabres power play and penalty killing has been particularly bad. But Buffalo is 14-6-2-1 at home. Brian thinks the price will be too high on the Sabres but believes they will jump back into the playoff race due to a favorable schedule. He also sees this as a must-win game for the Sabres. Cam likes the over the total in this one.

St. Louis Blues -115 at Calgary Flames

The second game in two nights may have The Note vulnerable at a rested Calgary team waiting to greet them. However, Brian really likes St. Louis as he actually sees back-to-back games as an advantage. Cam agrees, especially if the Blues lose at Vancouver on Monday.
