RECAP:  On today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast, we were reminded about the fickle and random nature of hockey. Cam had what looked like an excellent double play on the Oilers and over the total of 5.5 in a 4-2 Edmonton loss in which Kyle Connor sent the game over the total with 40 seconds to play on an empty-netter. Adding to the frustration was that Edmonton out-shot the Jets 38-25. However, all was not lost as Minnesota got the money in a 5-4 overtime thriller at Anaheim, while the Toronto Maple Leafs roller coaster ride went back up in a 2-1 home win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Pondering how the wild ride of the Leafs will turn when play resumes serves as a full-time job in its own right.

On today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart take a look at games for Wednesday, March 11, and Thursday, March 12, 2020.  The second half of the show begins at the 22:05 mark.

The playoff jockeying has been incredible with teams in and out of post-season position on a nightly basis. Further, many of the teams out of position are playing their best hockey so far this season, throwing an additional monkey wrench into the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs race. Brian and Cam have sifted through the loaded card to isolate the finest selections.

Wednesday, March 11th, 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Picks

San Jose Sharks vs. Chicago Blackhawks -175, 6 (NBCSN)

The NHL odds price looks exceedingly high on a favourite that is 15-14-4 at home. The boys quickly jump out of the gate with a selection. Listen to today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast to get the pick.

Winnipeg Jets at Edmonton Oilers -141, 6 (SN)

The Jets are tied in the final spot in the West for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs and have won four of their last five. Edmonton is just 17-10-6 at home. Cam has a double-play selection here. Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast now to get it.

St. Louis Blues -200, 6.5 at Anaheim Ducks

St. Louis continues to hold a two-point lead over Colorado for first in the West and has won eight of their last ten. But the 13th place Ducks have won three of their last four. Backers of The Note may well seek the puck line alternative. Cam sees this as a dangerous game while Brian wonders how The Note wins so consistently.

New York Rangers at Colorado Avalanche -159, 6.5

The Rangers have lost four of their last six to fall out of position for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, the Avs have dropped three of their last four as injuries are taking their toll. The Broadway Blueshirts could be a great value with the NHL lines based on a road mark of 19-12-2. Brian likes the plus-price on New York due to Colorado injuries and increased motivation that should follow a bad loss at Dallas. Cam agrees. NYR is only three points out of the East’s last post-season spot.

Ottawa Senators at Los Angeles Kings -160, 6

The last place Kings are on fire with new call-ups sparking them to six consecutive wins. But they could still be an overlay with the NHL odds against a dangerous Sens team that has won four of their last six. Are the puck lines a smart alternative? Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for a strong double-play pick from Cam on this game.

Thursday, March 12th, 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Picks

Nashville Predators at Toronto Maple Leafs -167 (TSN4)

Nashville is on a heater with three consecutive wins to climb into the Western Conference’s seventh slot for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Brian and Cam wisely jumped off the Toronto Maple Leafs roller coaster on Monday’s episode (03/09/2020) of The Hockey Betting Podcast. But today we have a selection. Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for the free NHL picks.

Buffalo Sabres at Montreal Canadiens -177 (TSN2, RDS)

Bleu blanc et rouge is an extremely expensive favourite as a 12th place team that has lost three in a row while gushing red ink at home with a mark of 14-17-6. The guys see the Montreal price-tag as an absurdly bad line and think it would be “Typical Sabres” for Buffalo to go on a heater – now that it doesn’t matter.

Philadelphia Flyers at Tampa Bay Lightning -155

The Flyers nine-game winning streak ended with a high-profile 2-0 home loss to the Bruins on Tuesday. But they are getting a big price here with the NHL odds against a Lighting team missing Steven Stamkos and slumping with seven losses in their last 10 games. Brian waxes philosophical about never laying money in hockey when you can take quality plusses on the board. Listen to today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast to hear the discussion.

Carolina Hurricanes -167 at New Jersey Devils

Carolina epitomizes the race for the 2020 NHL Playoffs. They began last weekend on the outside looking in but are now in the Eastern Conference’s sixth slot following a three-game winning streak. But this is a huge lay with the NHL lines against a New Jersey team that has won six of their last 10. Cam sees this as a difficult game while Brian says the Carolina price is nuts. Listen to today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast to hear the discussion.

Detroit Red Wings at Washington Capitals -375

Those taking Washington will consider the puck lines based on this massive price-tag. The Caps have dropped six of their last 10 and face a Detroit team capable of blowing up the board as they did Sunday in a 5-4 win over Tampa Bay. This is yet another line that the boys call “nuts.” Cam says Washington will win but prefers the puck line. Brian likes under the total.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Columbus Blue Jackets -110

Columbus has dropped seven of their last ten due to no offence and is now eighth in the East. But the Pens are also fading with seven losses in their last 10 games. Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for a double-play NHL pick from Cam on this game with Brian weighing in on the total.

Vegas Golden Knights -113 at Minnesota Wild

Minnesota began the week in position for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs but is now one point out. Interim coach Dean Evason has led the Wild to seven wins in their last ten games. But Vegas has the hot hand at the dice table with eight wins in their last 10 outings to maintain control of the Pacific Division. Cam has a strong pick on the side here while Brian has interesting analysis and a play on the total. Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for the two selections.

Florida Panthers at Dallas Stars -155

Dallas continues its struggles to light the lamp and has fallen down to sixth place in the West with only three wins in their last 10 games. Cam may call for Florida’s contraction but they are only three points out of the final slot in the East for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs and have won two in a row. Cam says “Florida or nothing” but will likely pass. Brian asks how can you trust Dallas at this price?

New York Islanders at Calgary Flames -167

Coach Barry Trotz’s formula of all defence and no offence has put the Islanders post-season hopes in jeopardy. The Isles are in free-fall with a seven-game losing streak. But Calgary is an expensive favourite with the NHL lines considering their 16-13-4 home record. Listen to today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast for Cam’s NHL pick in this one with complete analysis.

Vancouver Canucks at Arizona Coyotes -139

The Desert Dogs have fallen four points out of post-season position due to their inability to consistently light the lamp. Erratic Vancouver is holding on by a fingernail to the West’s final slot for the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Brian calls this an Arizona playoff game. Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for complete analysis and the free NHL picks.
