March 9th, 2020 | The Hockey Betting Podcast
RECAP: On today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Brian demonstrated his mastery of NHL totals with an easy under payout on Buffalo’s 3-2 shootout win over Washington. And the guys continued to ride the LA Kings hot streak with a 3-1 win over Colorado, although they missed on over the total in that tilt. They both understandably liked the streaking Flyers at home against a shorthanded Bruins team, but Boston rallied for a 2-0 win. It was a great hockey handicapping reminder on how teams can rally to play better in the face of injuries. Also, on today’s episode, Cam delivered a strong over the total pick with Carolina in their 5-2 win at Detroit.

On today’s episode of The Hockey Betting Podcast, Brian Blessing and Cam Stewart take a look at the NHL games for Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10, 2020. The second half of the show begins at the 15:15 mark.
The week begins with five points separating six teams for the final three Western Conference spots in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. And it’s the same story in the Eastern Conference with five points separating six teams for the final three post-season slots as well. All of which means an action-packed week of playoff push hockey.

Monday, March 9th 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Picks
Washington Capitals -177, 6.5 at Buffalo Sabres
Erratic Washington has lost six of its last 10 games and is an expensive favourite with the NHL odds for this match-up. Buffalo is a respectable 19-11-4 on home ice. There may be increased puck line action for this one. Brian has a strong pick for this game. Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast to get the free NHL pick.
Arizona Coyotes at Winnipeg Jets -122, 5.5
The Jets are in a three-way tie for the final post-season spot in the West with Arizona just two points behind. The guys agree on this game going under the total and pass on the side.
Florida Panthers at St. Louis Blues -167, 6 (NHL Network)
St. Louis leads Colorado by two points for top seed in the West in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Note has won nine of their last 10 games but the expensive price on the NHL betting board may drive some to the puck lines. Despite recent struggles, Florida is just three points out of a playoff spot with a game in hand. Cam sees a letdown spot here for St. Louis after a rivalry win at Chicago on Sunday. He’ll take the Panthers and the big price. Brian will avoid this one.
Vegas Golden Knights at Edmonton Oilers -129, 6
Edmonton trails Vegas by two points for first place in the Pacific and the seeding advantages that come with that. Both teams are in good form recently. The Oil has won four of their last five while VGK has prevailed in eight of their last 10. Brian likes over the total. The guys think this could be a “statement game” for the Oil.
Colorado Avalanche -134, 5.5 at Los Angeles Kings
Break out the Kings! LA has won five in a row with call-ups serving as a massive transfusion. Despite a long injury list the Avalanche have won eight of their last 10. Brian spots a weak number on this game for the total. Cam comes strong here as well for the side. Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast now for complete analysis and the double-play NHL picks.
Tuesday, March 10th 2020 NHL Schedule, Betting Odds, Picks
Tampa Bay Lightning -124 at Toronto Maple Leafs
Once again, we are reminded that the Toronto Maple Leafs are hockey’s ultimate roller coaster ride. Toronto’s three-game losing streak has put them at ninth place in the East with their post-season hopes in peril. This game features a great angle from Brian in which you bet against a team playing their first home game after three or more tilts on the road. The Leafs are an unreliable 17-9-7 at home. The TBL price with the NHL odds is more affordable due to Steven Stamkos being out. Cam admits that the Leafs have “ruined” him. The guys are tired of the roller coaster ride and want off. Pass.
Nashville Predators -136 at Montreal Canadiens (TSN2, RDS)
The Habs have dropped four of their last six and are just 14-16-6 on home ice. Nashville is in a three-way tie for the last playoff spot in the West and riding a two-game winning streak. The guys are confounded by the Predators. Brian just doesn’t trust them. Pass.
Pittsburgh Penguins -152 at New Jersey Devils
The Pens are an expensive favourite with eight losses in their last 10 games. Over the past three weeks on The Hockey Betting Podcast, Cam has frequently isolated the hidden value of the Devils with the NHL odds. Indeed, New Jersey has won six of their last nine. But the guys rate this one as another pass.
Boston Bruins -118 at Philadelphia Flyers (SN, NBCSN)
This is the game of the night, if not the entire week. The Flyers have won nine in a row and have a home ice record of 25-5-4. Boston leads the Eastern Conference by six points over Tampa Bay and has won seven of their last 10. The B’s are 21-10-3 on enemy ice. Listen now to The Hockey Betting Podcast for a key release from the guys on this marquee match-up.
Carolina Hurricanes -195 at Detroit Red Wings
Following a two-game winning streak the Hurricanes are in a three-way tie for the Eastern Conference’s last spot in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. But the massive lay here could drive action to the puck lines. Cam will be taking over the total here. He also likes the Canes but hates the price.
New York Rangers at Dallas Stars -157
Dallas has lost seven of their last 10 as their lack of offence is catching up to them. The Rangers have the opposite problem with a weak defence that has offset strong goal scoring. NYR has dropped four of their last five. Cam has a “sneaky” double-play on this one. Listen to The Hockey Betting Podcast now for the free NHL picks.
New York Islanders at Vancouver Canucks -120
Vancouver has dropped seven of their last 10 and into a three-way tie for the Western Conference’s final spot in the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Eighth place NYI is another team struggling to light the lamp and has dropped eight of their last 10 to fall into post-season peril themselves. Cam leans with the road dog in this situation and thinks Vancouver may be tight at home. The always selective Brian passes.
Ottawa Senators at Anaheim Ducks -157
The plucky Sens could be a live dog here after winning four of their last five. The 13th place Ducks carry an expensive price-tag with the NHL odds, especially when you consider their 15-14-5 home record. The guys lean over the total and expect “pond hockey” with two bad teams.
